Celebrating Steve Gardner's Achievement
North Wales Road Runner Steve Gardner has done it again! He represented Team GB at various track championships, both at home and abroad. Recently, he achieved a fantastic new personal best (PB) and set a new Welsh record in the 800m race at the Masters Inter-Area T&F Championships in Yate. What an incredible accomplishment!
Competing for Welsh Masters Athletics, Steve was one of nine top Welsh athletes who won their respective age categories at this prestigious event. He smashed the current Welsh MV60 category record, pending ratification, after finishing second in his race with a time of 2 minutes 15.34 seconds. He was just behind World record holder Rob McHarg of Scotland.
A Personal Reflection
After his successful run, Steve shared his thoughts: “There were many great performances from this meeting by fellow Welsh representatives and other area teams. From a personal perspective, the meeting was a fantastic success. I finished 2nd in the 800m, improving my PB from 2:19:14 to 2:15:34 (94.62% age grade).”
His achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication. It’s always inspiring to see athletes push their limits and achieve greatness!
Acknowledging Fellow Athletes
Steve also paid tribute to his fellow North Wales colleague Aled Hughes from GOG Triathlon. Aled made his WMAL team and track debut in the 1500m race, finishing in a highly credible fourth place. It's great to see local athletes supporting each other and achieving their personal bests!
