True Crime
Welcome to the True Crime feature section.
The new Coast and Country blog will highlight some important videos, books and TV
documentaries, with links to YouTube for review. Much of this is based on editor Don Hale’s
various campaigns for justice over several decades.
They involve several miscarriage of justice cases including that of Stephen Downing, who
spent over 27 years in jail for a murder he did not commit, and Barry George, who was also
wrongfully jailed over the murder of Jill Dando.
The videos, cover ongoing BBC TV and Channel 4 documentaries, plus some news footage,
and additional input from Chris Clarke, a former policeman, who has also spent time
investigating several links to the Yorkshire Ripper, and to numerous unsolved mysterious
murders etc.
Within the documents is another link to the ITV investigation by Judge Robert Rinder into
Don Hale’s successful campaign to overturn the conviction of Downing, with input from
Stephen and from Chris Clarke.

The section also refers to a number of key publications which also highlight the extent of the
work involved in trying to resolve a number of high-profile true crime cases.
